Cityscapes - Singapore River

Here's a picture of our durian and river cruise, composed in a typical postcard setting. Sadly i failed to take into account the bright light from the background, hence the overexposed portion near the top left of the photo. There wasn't anything of significance there anyway, so don't worry, you didn't miss anything :P

Caught the sunset from the window of my friend's apartment. It wasn't really a good shot though because i forgot to change the ISO so it was like at 800, hence the noise in the pic. Sorry if you might find it disturbing, haha!

Second pic taken on the way up the north-south highway ( correct me if i'm wrong thanks ). Basically got bored in the car thus i decided to take this all-too-familiar cam-whore picture.

On the move - Malaysia's KTM

I'm at my Grandma's house in Malaysia now. Took this photo near some eating place we stopped at for lunch on the way up the north-south highway. I think it looks like some advertisement poster for their KTM, haha. Hopefully i'll be able to grab a couple of good pics during my 3 days here. Stay tuned!

Tunnels are awesome for such shots. Really really. This one was taken at a tunnel near esplanade drive, and i love the effect of the jogger running into it. It seems so surreal.

This wasn't taken by me though, but by someone much younger than me who was playing around with my camera. I like the simplistic yet provocative approach this picture gives. The old, or the new? Nine? The slant of the roof? Or is it a stairwell? Where does the black door lead to? Questions, questions and more questions; all left for YOU to answer.

The Streets

Well as some have requested, I did attempt doing some street photography recently. Just some reflections: Most people approach such a genre by being trigger-happy i.e. they simply shoot without looking hoping for the best. As a personal preference, I prefer well-composed shots taken through the viewfinder. The streets can really be full of interesting perspectives for you to shoot, but they only appear when you least expect it and disappear before you know it. Hence my 3 golden rules of street photography to you:

Point fast, Shoot fast, and most importantly, Leave fast.

Alright as promised i've uploaded a slightly different genre. I took this pic using a 4.2sec shutter speed with f3.8 aperture. SERIOUSLY i got no idea how to get a good shot using this perspective. Maybe one fine day when i have the time i'll go down there again to experiment with different settings.

Cityscapes - Central Business District

Here we have the classic city shot that almost every photographer should shoot at some point. Long shutter, suitable aperture, correct exposure, and a significant amount of patience are needed for such shots, thus it's not as simple as it might look. Spent around an hour there getting the correct shot. Anyway, you must be sick of all the cityscape shots i'm putting up right now, so i promise i'll experient a different genre in the next post!

Cityscapes - Victoria Concert Hall

It was a lovely tuesday evening doing some phototaking with Zerh near the merlion when i happened to glance behind me; lo and behold, that clock tower stood majestically against the setting sun. Unfortunately our view was marred by the F1 street lights on the esplanade drive bridge, so we made a mad dash all the way up and to the centre of the bridge for a clear view (knowing Singapore sunsets typically last 10-15mins). Thanks Huishan for enlightening me on the name of this tower.

Night photo of one of our gazetted national monuments called the MICA building (Ministry of Information, Communication, and Arts). It used to be the premises of the Old Hill Street Police Station. It's a short walk from Clarke Quay MRT station. Well I just love the colours, haha. Not the best of angles, so maybe i'll go back there to try my luck again.

Ok, a break from fuzzywuzzy pictures. Here we have a pretty shot of our MRT train against the sunset. It was after work and i was on my way to give tuition when i decided to do this crazy thing of climbing over a ledge to shoot over a fence which was blocking my view, amidst wierd stares from passerbys. How memorable. Where did I get this angle from? Keep guessing :)
